Written between 2019 and 2021, this three-book picture-book series follows one determined pea on increasingly unexpected adventures. In The Runaway Pea, he escapes teatime and bounces through the kitchen; in The Runaway Pea Washed Away, he is swept down the plughole and into the wider world; and in The Runaway Pea Left Behind, he must find his way home after a shopping trip. Bouncy rhymes, comic peril and expressive illustrations make the series especially appealing to children aged 4–8 who enjoy silly humour, food-themed stories and adventurous characters. Mild slapstick, darkness and peril may briefly unsettle very sensitive readers, but nothing is graphic.
